Understanding Human Mind

Before going to our actual question that does hypnosis work for weight loss, we will try to understand the human mind. The human mind is divided into two major parts that are the Conscious Mind and the Sub-Conscious Mind.

Conscious Mind

The conscious mind is our thinking mind or you can say it educated mind. One can also say that Conscious Mind is the intellectual mind where we gather all the knowledge from different sources. The conscious mind has the ability to choose and it also has the ability to accept or reject. Whenever we have a certain goal to achieve and our perspective is that this goal is difficult to achieve then we decide with our conscious mind that we cannot accomplish it. The language of the Conscious mind is logic. But the Real You lives in the level below the Conscious mind, that is the Sub-conscious mind.

Subconscious Mind

Our habits are part of the Subconscious mind. Not only good, bad, or ugly habits but practical habits are also part of the subconscious mind. Practical habits are those which we do even without thinking about it like answering the phone, biting nails, turning a hair, etc. Our emotions are also in the Sub-Conscious mind e.g. love, hate, etc. Our logical Conscious mind has no control over our emotions and it is left to our child-like sub-conscious mind. The third part of Sub-conscious is Permanent Memory. Everything that happened in your life is recorded here in the subconscious including sights, sounds, smells, and even feelings. That is why during Hypnotic Regression, you can relive any memory from your life vividly even if you do not remember it consciously.

Why are we unable to adopt new Habits?

Now another part of the Subconscious mind is the Security and Protective part. Our personal security is the number one job of our Subconscious mind. The language of the subconscious is imagination.

The only communication between the Logical Conscious mind and the Imaginative Subconscious mind is Will Power. We use willpower to suppress our emotions or control habits.

But unfortunately, Will Power is temporary, and suppressed emotions sooner or later get redirected in a negative manner by causing stress or can be causing illness. In most cases, the habit returns sooner or later. Remember the language of the Conscious mind is Logic, and the language of the Subconscious mind is Imagination.

When Logic and Imagination conflict, Imagination wins every time. As the language of Sub-conscious is Imagination, it cannot tell the difference between that what is real and what is not real. Everything is real or true for the Imaginative Mind. If it believes it to be true then it is.

What is Hypnosis?

Now you understand the human mind so now let’s explain hypnosis in simple terms. Normally the Conscious mind is in the front and the Subconscious mind is in the background. In between these two minds is a filter that we called Critical Faculty. This part is critical of information before we let it enter our powerful Subconscious mind or our belief system or our permanent memory. So you were taught something that you think is crazy, your Conscious Mind will filter it out and will not allow it to enter your belief system or your programming.

Children from the age of 0 up to 7 years are in their Subconscious 100% of the time. This is why the child’s mind is fertile ground. Whatever seed you plant in it is what is going to grow. So these children do not have the Critical Faculty yet.

Hypnosis is a state when the Conscious Mind moves aside and the Critical Faculty is bypassed allowing your Sub-Conscious mind to be receptive to positive suggestions for change. So these positive seeds or suggestions get planted in your Sub-conscious Mind.

Entering into hypnosis happens to you on daily basis. Hypnosis is the natural state that you have experienced thousands of times before. Whenever you feel sad or cry after watching the movie. Your logical mind knows that it’s only a movie and knows that it is not real yet you still feel sad and maybe even cry. This happens because while you watch a movie, the conscious mind got disappeared and you are not thinking about work, family, or friends. While you are watching a movie, that thinking mind has disappeared and that Critical Faculty has been bypassed and you are in your Sub-conscious Mind.

With Hypnosis we do the same thing. We move the Conscious Mind aside and bypass the Critical Faculty in order to plant positive seeds of change into the Sub-conscious Mind. In Sub-conscious these newly planted suggestions grows and cause incredible changes in our beliefs, thoughts, habits, behaviors, and even our health. These suggestions can be given by a professional hypnotist or you can give them to yourself by practicing self-hypnosis.

Forms of Hypnosis And Brain Waves

There are two forms of hypnosis that take place.

The first form of hypnosis is a form that you might be familiar with called Stage Hypnosis and that’s where you see people barking and doing silly things. That form of hypnosis has a lot of entertainment value but it doesn’t do anything to change your habit.

The form of hypnosis that you want to use to change behaviors as a form of hypnosis which is called therapeutic hypnosis or you can also call it Hypnotherapy. A lot of people don’t realize that you actually go into hypnosis all the time.

Let take an example; when you go to sleep at night and right before you fall asleep, you go into a state of consciousness known as an alpha state that’s considered a state of hypnosis. When you wake up early in the morning, even then you are in that state. A lot of people uses hypnosis for weight loss, changing eating habits, quit smoking and to change many other bad habits.

During hypnosis, the body becomes more and more relaxed and the brain enters changing levels of brain wave pattern. There are four main different brainwave patterns when looking at hypnosis. These are Beta Wave Pattern, Alpha Wave Pattern, Theta Wave Pattern and Delta Wave Pattern as measured by an EEG.

Most people understand how to lose weight and they know what they should be eating. They also know that they should be exercising. The problem is not actually what to do but in fact, the problem is actually implementing it long enough to see results. Implementing and sticking to an exercise routine and healthy eating habits is really tough for some people just because of their perception. Most of the time we have our Conscious thought which is, I want to lose weight. Whereas our Subconscious in the background says I’m bored, stressed, I like to eat, I don’t like exercise and food is my comfort. So when you consciously want to lose weight but your Sub-conscious Mind in the background says that it’s very hard. Sub-conscious is 10 times more powerful than our Conscious Mind, so it wins most of the time and we quit exercise or dieting. So the goal of hypnosis for weight loss is to align these negative Subconscious habits with what you actually want. So Hypnosis for weight loss is incredibly effective and it definitely works.

Here are few tips for you that help you the most out of your hypnotic sessions:

  1. Be ready, Close your eyes and see yourself in your ideal body. See yourself happy and energetic, slim or whatever you want. See it in your mind because by visualizing it, you are guiding yourself naturally in that direction to have that body that you desire
  2. Realize that hypnosis is not a one-and-done sort of thing. It’s a process and not a magic and it takes many sessions to accomplish your desired result.

Hypnosis has 93% of recovery rate which is very high but that takes almost six sessions. Some clients probably will not need a full six sessions.

Try Small Hypnosis Experiment Before Trying Actual Hypnotherapy

Before trying Hypnotherapy for weight loss, just try this small experiment. You can even try this experiment right now. It is perfectly ok if you are sitting on a chair. This experiment can be done either seated or standing. Be assured that nobody will disturb you while performing this experiment.

Extend your arms in front of you, palms down and just close your eyes. Now just feel every part of your body relaxed. Relax your body as much as you can. Now in this relaxed state just Imagine, that you have a huge helium-filled balloon tugging at your right wrist, and a ten-pound lead weight is pulling at your left wrist. Imagine it as vividly as you can, really vividly. You can feel your right arm getting lighter and lighter and lighter, while you left arm gets heavier and heavier and heavier. You can feel your right arm floating upwards, while your left arm starts to sag under a load of that lead weight.

Most people will slowly lift their right arm and slowly lower their left, though most will not be aware that they are doing so and are astonished when they open their eyes! Try this now and see if it actually worked and if yes then please comment below about your experience.

Hypnosis Suggestions

1 thought on “Does Hypnosis Work For Weight Loss?”

  1. Yes the sample hypnosis worked for me. I actually felt my arm lift and slowly pull away with little effort. I am very tired but my conscious brain tells me stay up later, search the articles. I operate most of my waking life in the Beta Waves and when I am working from home or the office for my job, it’s the Aloha Waves. My job requires critical thinking skills therefore I am mentally exhausted in the evening but can or relax. So I eat junk food such as sweets and chips and no balanced meal.
